Mahoroba

A quiet experience, created for you.

There are many places where you can eat in Kyoto.

Mahoroba was created for a different purpose.

It is a place to slow down.

To enjoy carefully prepared home-style Japanese cuisine.
To look out at the green mountains of Arashiyama.
To let conversation become quieter.
To remember what it feels like to eat without rushing.

Our meals are entirely plant-based, prepared without refined sugar, artificial additives, or chemical seasonings.

But our goal is not simply to serve healthy food.

Our wish is that, when you leave, your body feels lighter,
your mind feels quieter,
and your day becomes a little more beautiful.

For over forty years, our chef, Miho, has studied traditional Japanese home cooking and macrobiotic cuisine.

Rather than following trends, she has devoted herself to understanding how ingredients, seasons, and cooking methods work together to create meals that feel naturally satisfying.

Every dish is prepared by hand, using carefully selected ingredients from Japanese artisans whom we know and trust.

We believe that truly good food does not need to be complicated.

It simply needs to be made with care.

The name Mahoroba comes from an ancient Japanese word meaning "an ideal place" or "a beautiful place to live."

For us, it is not a perfect place.

It is a quiet place.

A place where food, people, and nature exist in harmony.

We hope that, for a little while,
Mahoroba becomes part of your journey through Kyoto.
